Mt Ruapehu’s winter wonderland

With a tagline ski | board | play it is very clear what to expect when you visit Mt Ruapehu in winter. Ruapehu boasts “the largest lift accessed terrain, the highest lift in New Zealand and a massive 722m vertical descent.”

Ruapehu has 2 ski fields – Turoa and Whakapapa. While many skiers have their preference, and this can be a fun debate, the reality is Mt Ruapehu is a fantastic playground for snow lovers!

Winter not your thing? The Tongariro National Park has so many places to explore and things to do. The Army Museum has always been a highlight for my kids or enjoy one of the many walks and tramps in the region. What is even better is that there is an expedition for every level from hardened tramper to a family bush walk. The regional website is really well laid out and a must visit site for planning your Ruapehu getaway!
